Two Cases of ABO Typing Discrepancy by Acquired B Antigen
Abstract
The acquired B antigen phenomenon is an ABO blood-typing discrepancy found only
in type AL people and should be considered when the red cell group appears to be AB
and the serum contains anti-B.
This phenotype is most often observed in the course of a bacterial infection,
frequently associated with digestive pathology, especially colic.
Recently the authors experienced two cases of acquired B antigen, one associated with
papillary serous cystadenocarcinoma of the ovary invading sigmoid colon and the other
with appendicitis, so we report with brief review of literatures.
